Apple officially announces the launch of its iPad, an all-new device added to the already impressive Apple roster. A tablet capable of doing everything under the sun, the iPad comes fully equipped with the ability to play videos, browse the web, read digital books, and everything in between.

Basically the future of netbooks, touch screen, stupidly well styled and smooth...goes on sale in march for around $499...check the site for more.

I dunno what to really think about it as i wouldnt buy one i think its sort of a glorified iphone/ipod touch...designed to kill off netbooks, but im thinking more about when are they gonig to adopt their laptops to this?, looks sick.

.WORK IN PROGRESS, HELP?.

if anybody actually reads this, tell me what you think & also which one is best...not finished but i like where its going, a promo cd for an mc, he wanted it different to other mixtapes you normally see and abit more abstract with bright colours..obviously inspired by pop art and peter saville.

Whilst looking for information on Sam Brown (the deirector of jay-z 'onto the next one video') i came across the company he works for called 'FLYNN'

Its a company set up by mary caldwood in 1998 who was 'on the pursuit of developing and original and creative film company'. It is made up of over 15 directors and designers from award winners to the cutting edge in Uk talent. I was really suprised when i found out they were british since they do so much big work, i kind of naively assumed they would be american aha.

'FLYNN create content on all platforms: live action, animation, photography and design work across the board' and have worked on briefs from Jay-z & the Foo fighters all the way to Smirnoff, Kiss & the BBC.

Having a brief look through the work they show on their site im really inspired by all of the different artists and they definitely have a wide range of people from people who produce extremely sharp looking styled videos with a strong reputation behind them all the way to (to my surprise) a young uk director called 'Mo' who produces alot of the best uk underground videos, so theres a wide range of talent and styles there.

Ive been trying to look for an 'in house style' but i really cant define one because their work is so broad and different form each director.

This would be a place i would love to work for when i leave university and even now, so im thinking of emailing them to see if during the same they take people on for work experience etc. it'd be a sick opportunity.

Once i get some smart questions down aswell i might send an email asking if i can do an interview for the blog which i think would be nuts.

 I love these sort of short clips, they make you look at things in a completley different day & make you think of what you miss each day thats just visualy sick.

I wanted to do something like for my one shot last year but it just never happend, wish i did.

research.

IN WHAT SPECIFIC WAYS CAN RESEARCH HELP ME GET TO NEW PLACES?

Research can help me get into a lot of new places by looking at a lot of different things and adapting them into how i work, for example i could research a designer and realise he sets out his work differently and has a different process from planning to creation to me, i could then take some of his process and adapt it to me to help me gain a better working process.

Research can also help me gain new ideas and techniques for my work as well as help a new way of thinking about work. Also simply researching the interent for images that are inspiring etc. can help push my self to create a new piece or something better than what has inspired me. Research can also be used to learn about the industry and what jobs there are, how to get these jobs, where to look and examples of people working in the industry. All of these ultimately prove along with others that all research usually has a positive effect in improving my work and improving my work will ultimately help me get to new and better places.

WHICH RESEARCH STARTING POINT AM I DRAWN TO?

I am most drawn to the 'In/Through' starting point, im more drawn to this pont as i like to learn hw the work came together and how he gained inspiration, whats techniques they used etc.

I feel this helps me the most personally although i do like to see the 'behind' to see the reasoning of why the work was like that and the meaning behind it.

WHICH DO I FEEL WARY OFF?

I wouldn't really say 'wary' but if i had to i would say the 'behind' porches as it can completely change the view of the work sometimes not for the better, also looking at the social context i think sometimes takes away from appreciating the aesthetics of the work and the way it was designed...it can get pretty deep.

WHICH SEEM IRRELEVANT?

I wouldn't say any of them are irrelevant, i think all research has its purpose and a use.

Also to finish the post heres another design layout i worked on for somebody's blog/website.

& also i logo i made, i wasnt asked to but i looked at the club nights logo and felt it wasnt right and they needed something better, who knows wether they'll use it...or just laugh at me

creativity.

WHAT HAS MY CREATIVITY BEEN FOR IN THE LAST FEW YEARS?

In the last few years, well since i was about my creativity was really for just experimenting and getting myself out of boredom. It consists of mainly sitting at home with my mac, printer, biro, paper...anything really and just well creating something, wether its from random posters to a promotional campaign for a friend/client.

WHO HAS IT BEEN FOR?

It started off pretty much just for myself as something i was interested in and found fun, then i realised perhaps i could turn it into something bigger....thats when i started to promote what i could do and offered design services to people at first for free simply for practise and in time for money so i could earn from it, i was getting alot of requests in the end but found myself kind of bored as i was asked 'yeah can you design me a cover like what you did for him yeh, like the same effects and shit,safe'....which in the end i kind of got bored and eventually just stopped doing it. Now the cycle is starting again but to stop the boredom happening i am always trying something a bit different in order to 'switch it up' and decide what projects i want too take on.

WHY HAVE I DONE IT THIS WAY?

I dont actually know, it kind of just happened naturally without no real thinking yeah im going to go about doing this a certain way.

WAS IT MY DECISION?

Yeah, wouldn't have it any other way really.

WHAT DO I WANT MY FUTURE OF CREATIVITY TO BE?

I want it to ultimately help me make a living which i will enjoy, i want to push my creativity past graphic design & into video directing, marketing, writing, creating my own brand & club nights....one big creative super agency run by me basically?...i also want it to keep pushing me and be constantly changing, no set way of whats going to happen.

Finally i want everything i do, be done because i want to...so ultimately i want 100% control of my creativity.

these writing tasks are basically jut mini interviews right?

As part of my creative development and research ive chose to look at probaly one of my favourite directors 'Spike Jonze'

 He's the man behind such things as 'Where the wild things are', 'Being John Malkovich', 'Adaptation', some of the bets music videos around & of course he's the co creator of jackass.

First off heres one of my favourite music videos of his...

This video is one of the reaosons i love Jonze's work, some things that particulary stick out to me

He's seems to have all theses characteristics in all of his videos.

Which i think is definetly the case...anyways the peice of film i just see which jump started me into looking into him more is the trailers for his new short film 'Im Here' which premiered at the sundance festival yesterday i think?

I think this is amazing, again it has his almost sort of dreamy affect to the video, and a sort of personal feeling that draws you too...im qutie crap at explaining to be honest, i dont know what it is...you decided

He's the creator of the notorious film 'irreversible', he is an argentinian born french filmaker who is responsible for films like 'carne' , 'I stand Alone', 'Irrerversible' & 'Enter The Void'.

To be honest im not gonna lie, ive only actually seen 'irreversible' and that was abotu 3 days ago, but it is probaly the most 'powerful & visceral' film iver ever seen. (yeah i nicked that descriptino from vice magazine, sorry).

Reason why ive chosen to research or learn about him is the techniques he uses and i agree with everything he says like he doesnt actually like concentrating on the 'story' of the film, but more the exprience it takes the veiwer on & he also hates using fake lighting as he feels it takes away from the feel, i respect that tooooo much.

Anyways in irreversible he agrees it didnt take him long to film, also whats amazing is most of the film is simply improvised and shot then cut up accordingly.

In irreversible he creates a film which really messes with your head and takes you somewhere...he uses stupily smart ideas such as playing all the music and sounds at low frequency which creates some surreal effect, one thing i liek in irreversible is the way the film goes in reverse order.

 He also uses some mental shots, spinning around creating a distorted feel, he uses it very well as the character it follows is drugged up and drunk, and it almsot makes you feel like it and draws you into the film more.

Heres the trailer which sort of gives you an idea.

Without me ruining too much you definetly should watch it if you want ot go down film making, its changed my veiws on alot.

CREATIVE PRACTICE?

So yeah anyways had the first week back at uni & weve been asked to blog more abotu our creative practice and development, also to look at each others blogs to learn about how we devlelop in different ways....really aint too possible, since 95/100 of the class dont blog on their blogs (stupid yeah?) and when they do its just saying, 'well today we got told to, so im going to do this'....then never blog about it

But yeah there was some helpful blogs, too long to name names but cheers.

Anyways For my own development ive been continuing my freelance design work!

Been designing a website for an music artists, even though im not coding it...guessing im kind of the art director? sick. Heres the intro page for it and some preveiws of more unfinished parts....its basically just a lifestyle blog.

Also since im probaly using this course to mainly learn the video element, to help me move on from graphics into movie work, music videos, short films etc!, Ive been looking at video directors and decided to add the video of the week at the side to show what i like at the moment.

One directing duo i definetly look up too are 'BBGUN'.

Their relativley newcomers but are making a big impact and are seriously talented kids, i first noticed there work on the Alternative music video for Kid Cudi (Video of the week)...which was made under a tiny budget $250....(Hype Williams Gets millions to play with!!)

I love the raw edgy effects on this i think they go with the music perfect, theres also some great shots (the rooftop scene) and i love the visual effects with the stuttering and colouring.

Hopefully i wont sound like a complete amatuer c**t next time and i'll know more technical words and all that stuff.
